There's going to be a rant later about the Supreme Court ruling; I just need to work up a good head of steam, not to mention get over the shock of 5 guys without medical degrees making medical decisions.
In the meantime, something far more creative and calming, yanked from the f-list:
Tell me about a story I haven't written, and I'll give you one sentence from that story. Maybe it'll juice something longer, you never know...

Those crazy boys in their swirly coats!

Date: 2007-04-19 03:07 pm (UTC)The words "Dredd Scott" are coming to my mind, although that's probably covered under some corrolary of Godwin's Law. Since there is no exemption for health of either woman OR FETUS this ruling, in the name of the sancitity of life, puts the status of a dead, uncleared miscarriage over the advice of the doctor and the wishes of the mother - who just might want to have the best chance of having another live birth, y'know?
Which is going to be the text of my rant, when I get to it. This doesn't just put fetus over mother. It puts DEAD TISSUE over woman.

"And wider."
"Now you're just bragging, Jack."
"Let's face it, mine's just generally better."
"Mine gets the job done."
"WILL YOU TWO STOP TALKING ABOUT YOUR COATS?" Martha screamed.

(And WHERE is the Janis Joplin fic? Why have you forsaken me fandom?!)
My heart will soar if there is a mention of the dueling coats in canon. SOAR!

"That can't exist."
"What, that thingie?"
"It's not a thingie! And it doesn't exist! It CAN'T exist!" He was sidling up to it, eyes wide. "Can it?"

It was fairly clear that she didn't actually have a clue WHAT it was, just that she thought she smelled a sale... The Doctor wasn't falling for it.
But he DID want to know where she'd "Purchased" such an item...
Tempt all you want, still doing the Time War first
Date: 2007-04-19 11:57 pm (UTC)After a while, something rotting staggered back in through the doors. It dragged itself to the central console and started flailing at the controls, not setting anything, not explaining anything, just punishing it with blow after blow, ignoring the splash of flesh and fluid with every impact.
"YOU GOT IT WRONG!" it howled through a melting mouth. "TAKE ME HOME! TAKE ME HOME! This isn't Gallifrey! You remember... Gallifrey was... Gallifrey was... was... beautiful."
It slumped on the floor and the mourning, confused TARDIS waited to see if the regeneration would start or if the last thing it knew would also disappear.
White light sparked across the twitching lump.
TARDISes weren't supposed to make decisions themselves. But this one had to get away before the radiation ate through its failing shields and it died. It didn't want to die. It had orders: go home. It frantically searched its faltering database. Home was Gallifrey. Coordinates said this was Gallifrey. But this was not home; not his and not its. This was nothing and never had been. Never would be.
The other home, then. There was another planet, one they visited so often, one they always came back to, one where they had lived.
The TARDIS had orders: go home.
As white light burned pure the ruined lump of flesh, the column geared up on its last bit of energy, heading for Earth.
