Christie is often bad about leaving plot ends flapping in the wind. In one of the Hercule Poirot short stories, we see the housemaid testifying emphatically that she saw the husband messing with the poison near his wife's porridge -- and yet later on, Poirot proves conclusively that the husband had nothing to do with the murder at all, and was never near the poison! So what was up with the maid? Had her testimony been bought? Was she perhaps in love with the husband herself, and angry when he didn't turn to her after the wife's death? Will she suffer any consequences from her perjury? Enquiring minds want to know!
