I ainten't dead (points if you recognize the phrase) yet, but I might be by midafternoon. The air quality is so bad that we're already at Code Orange (not to be confused with a terrorist code orange) which basically boils down to "don't breathe the air outside."

So what do I get to do today? Come home in the hot afternoon, turn the air conditioning off, and crank the oil heater so it can be serviced. That's going to be... amusing.

News of Scott the First!
I am nuts for two formerly New York-based actors, both named Scott, both married with one son to someone else in the acting biz, both physically quite similar. It's a bit scary. Scott the Second is Scott Cohen, "Wolf" from 10th Kingdom, one of the leads in "Street Time," Rory's teacher from the first couple seasons of Gilmore Girls, etc.

Scott the First is Scott Wentworth. He got himself a fan club for playing Kermit Griffin in Kung Fu-The Legend Continues, but he's mainly a stage actor and is the reason why I started migrating to the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario every summer. Well, this year, his bio gleefully ends with "Mr. Wentworth spent the off-season killing zombies in the newest Romero movie."

More details, via [livejournal.com profile] bentleywg and [livejournal.com profile] maureen_the_mad here and here, including a picture that makes him look a heck of a lot better than he did as the Earl of Gloucester in Lear! (He's on the end with the recurve bow and the sneer, looking badass, but not as badass as when he carried a BFG.

(Oh, look! When you google Kermit Griffin, you get slash.)

And Other Actors - David's Back in the RSC!
It's all over my friends list - David Tennant is confirmed in a run of Hamlet and Love's Labors Lost at the RSC, from 24 July through 15 November 2008. I *had* meant to delay the next trip overseas to January of '09 to take advantage of the off-season prices & sales, plus the panto season but damn... my birthday falls during that run. I may give myself a very expensive present. (Although - why HAMLET, damnit? I hate Hamlet, and I'm not that fond of LLL either. *sigh*)

Still not convinced that DT's leaving at the end of this season of Who, though. If they have a long hiatus - and the property is hot enough that they can afford a delay - then if they shoot the Christmas special early, then he could still wedge this in.

Fic in progress
Good thing the Jack and Sarah Jane story was the winner of the poll, because that's the one that had an unexpected complete scene springing into my head. Wow, that story suddenly went dark! Since I meant it to be fairly light, I'll have to see what I can do for a mood shift.

Am thinking about doing a post that just lists all the songs I exercise to with the exact same beat so folks can mix and match to their taste and grown their own mixes. It's a little over an hour long. Anyone interested? Y/N

Yeah, my next scheduled in-laws trip to the UK is '09 as well and I am similarly wondering about that now. *reminds self he will probably stick around for more than one season*

Quite likely - the best way for him to keep from being typecast during/after Who is to keep doing classical theater and offseason projects like Recovery.

Mind you, I still hope he does Who for another full season. Two, by preference. I know that the classic Doctors generally stayed for only 3 years, but that was a lot more episodes than he's doing!

I wonder when the tourist season ends. Would going in October/November still be off-season?

Seems like it, as the shows get more unfrequent by then...

IIRC the UK tourist season is something like May to September. Definitely by November is off-season.

Hmmmm... that means October is off season too, and my birthday is in late October...

So is mine. But usually I have things I want to do locally in October, though I admit that a trip to the British Isles outweighs visiting the Texas Renaissance Festival. (I'd still like to be home in time for the annual USS Joshua Halloween party, though.) Admittedly an advantage of October over September would be that I still could toy with the option of attending Dragon*Con again next year -- especially if this time around I stayed in a damn Holiday Inn...

That's it, I'm going to have to go. Pasta for 2 months it is. And I ADORE Hamlet. (But shouldn't he do Love's Labour's Won, instead... ;)

I've been stalking reading your journal for, um, a few months now, and your love for Scott Cohen has sealed it--mind if I friend you?

Actually, I can see Tennant making quite a good Berowne. Though I'm also crossing my fingers that this doesn't mean the end of his Doctor.

Not at all! I don't guarantee to friend back, but I'm always happy to have new readers.

I just wish he was doing a pair of plays I liked more. Even Maccers is better than Hamlet, IMO. Even Two Noble Kinsmen. (Thinks of David and John Simm in the main roles and ends up in a very happy place.)

Oh, well, it could be worse. It could be Merchant of Venice...

I like Hamlet, but I've also seen it or been involved with enough productions at this point that I can do a lot of "Ooh, they kept this speech, and cut that one, and that's an interesting interpretation, and I wonder what they're going to do here" while watching, which helps a lot in the slow bits.

I would be happy to see the two of them together again in anything (including newspaper photos). I mean, I hate Two Gents with a fiery passion, but the two of them in it would be beautiful.

Oh, no, please. Not Two Noble Fuckwits.

Two Gents, maybe.

Oh, and Scott W. with a bow, looking all backwoods-Kermit Griffin-y? Sends me to my happy place! <burble>

Two Noble Fuckwits

*sporfle!* Yeah, that does sum it up. I've been dying to give it the same treatment I gave Richard II.

Lovely icon! I suppose I should get a Scott one going.

PS - I think if you go back far enough in this LJ - like when I just started - I'm still talking about the Scott Cohen fan club. Can't remember off the top of my head if I had my LJ when I was still running up to see him in stuff.

If you Google "cinnabon" you probably get slash only with a knife.

Scott W. always had great hair, but I know, from talking with him, that he can't type. Then again, that was 10 or more years ago...

Well, I know what your B-day and Xmas gifts will be now.
