I see David Tennant and the Who people have split the difference; rather than him leaving after his third season to do other things or them bribing him to stay, they've decided to run the stuff being currently filmed as the 2008 season, have three specials in 2009 with David (thereby allowing him to work on outside projects without giving up the role) and then go back to a standard season in 2010.

With, I notice, no word on who the Doctor will be at that point. Nor do we know who the companion(s) will be past 2008.

Still, this strikes me as being the best way of handling it. David gets to re-establish his career while he's hot and hireable, the Who franchise does not return to the dreaded status of "hiatus" and even fandom gets a little breathing time to speculate, write, and argue.

On a completely different topic, I'm going to repeat here what I said on [livejournal.com profile] homekeeping: if you're keeping clothing because you think you'll fit into it again someday, stop wasting your time and space. Of the five boxes I had, I'm keeping *two things.* Everything else was out of date, still too small, unflattering, or otherwise not worth the effort. I have more than made up for missing last week's Sunday 7 with the closet/dresser purge that's going on now.

It'll also give the writing staff a chance to reorganize--isn't RTD leaving after the next season?

In any case, while I devoutly hope Tennant sticks around, I do at least trust the DW team to hire someone good to replace him. What they then go on to do in terms of story is anyone's guess.

That's the rumor, and it would allow time for an orderly handover with time for on-the-job training. I don't know if that's what's actually happening, but it makes sense.

I am prepared to place my trust in the producers (even Rusty) to hire Doctors and companions I will love.

Go you. I need to go into my closet and delete the back half of the clothing, which is never worn.

Do it. Do it. You won't regret it in the end. I'm reclaiming just amazing amounts of space. I'm keeping some pieces that may go in the next purge - some fancy tunics mostly - but there is just so, overwhelmingly much stuff to get out of my life, I can't believe!

(The Morning Yoga and the Sunday 7 are the two great epiphanies of 2007. Although I hope to finish purging all the rooms of the house by New Years, I think I'm going to keep up some "52 Items Project" in 2008 just to make sure the clutter doesn't come back.)

If nothing else, it's doing me the world of good to open drawers I don't go into on a weekly basis and evaluate the contents.

I just made a big stack of clothes belonging to another woman, a woman known variously as Me Ten Years Ago, Me In New England, Me 20 Pounds Ago, and Oh My God What Was She Thinking?

It feels like freedom.

OMG, I've met her, especially that last incarnation. And I've just dumped all her stuff too! She gets around. (Remember how I said I might keep some fancy tunics? I showed them to my roommate and as soon as she finished laughing at the shoulder pads, she made me put them in the box too.)

It really *does* feel like freedom, too. I try not to think about the amount of money going into the box and focus on the peaceful empty space and the liberation.

Veddy interesting--and it will be interesting as well to see what about the show and the character changes (or doesn't) when RTD leaves. And now, as I was certain this would not happen, I must go get a knife and fork and eat my hat.

Any news on whether Rusty is staying past the 2009 specials?

Bribing the grand jury and all potential witnesses to the supposed "crime" as we speak. Forget it, Rusty, it's Chinatown!

Now, now, Rose, Parting of the Ways, and Runaway Bride were great. I think he's probably better off doing one-shots than trying to spin larger arcs, actually.

I loved QAF with unqualified love until RTD was given a second chance at it and tacked that moronic ending onto it. I loved the revived Doctor Who and s1/27 Rose and... and... and... then they gave RTD a second series... and I love him for loving Who and putting effort into it and making something popular... but it wasn't enough. I don't know if anyone else would've done better so I'm not as hard on RTD as many other people. It's only that his best is so very good that his mediocre is painful in contrast. And he has bad habits... which he repeats... ad nauseum... and I can't believe no-one's ever mentioned them to him... so if he's oblivious to them then... he needs an overseer with enough power to blue pencil an occasional line here and there. /evil editor

Trufax. It's just that he seems to be at his best during Big! Climactic! Stories! instead of arcs, so I'm thinking that we might be better off with a few specials.

It would also be the perfect time to do on-the-job training with a new crew, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if that's exactly what does happen, with a regeneration and a new Doctor and production team in for Christmas 2009.

No, but I'm betting that news of who is doing what won't be released until mid 2008 or even early 2009, depending on what contracts are signed when.

Well it's the best of both worlds really. Although I'll miss my thirteen weeks of Who. Getting maybe 6 weeks or three feature-length episodes isn't the same. But it's better than getting none at all.

I hope, if David does go after the specials, that they bring Martha back so we have a familiar face on the TARDIS (am I a bad girl for wanting to start at Gatiss for Eleven campaign?)

I'm not sure if I'm sorry or will be a bit relieved to not have 13 weeks of Who. It's a lot to try to keep up with all at once; spread out over specials gives more breathing room!

Not sure who I'd want for 11. I suppose Tony Head is out of the running?

It's *amazing.* I haven't done a thing that was on my sizeable "to do" list this weekend, but I have emptied six drawers. Six! And I've found the damnedest things buried in them. Like old panties. I bought 'em cheap but the elastic was no good, so I sewed on new elastic, and finally replaced them with something better. But do I throw them out? No, they're filling up a drawer for years.

I've put half in the pile to go to Italy and the other half are going to get to go to England. Go... but not return. It won't save a lot of space in the suitcase, but at least I'll get one last huzzah out of 'em.

...I suddenly realize this is probably more than you ever wanted to know about my underwear. Still, I feel very happy I've cleared out so much and found a use for the things I can't donate.

I do that! I always have a couple of pairs of last chance knickers for situations in which wear-and-throw-away is a good option.

I match your underwear TMI and raise you vague hints at something worse! ;-)

Hmmmm--- This could be Very Cool.. Especially (As you and others pointed out,) RTD seems to ADORE- and do fairly well at- stories that can best be described as "Epic", the word I've heard him use time and again in the Confidentials. (He seems very fond of it and there have been times when I told the screen - "That word, you keep using it..." (etc.))

Besides- could you see RTD doing something like the Key to Time series- only as three- or maybe four 90-minute jobs? THAT would be the sort of epic thing that would probably have him salivating...

And to get -even a truncated!- fourth series from David?! I'll take it and be happy for it!
I'll consider who I'd like to see as 11 - later.
