I followed the instructions on someone else's LJ to kill that annoying popup whenever you roll over a link on LJ, but it didn't take. One more time for the slow class, please? Because that little feature has to die. NOW!

They've enabled a thing called "Graphics preview" on (I think only paid journals) that pops up a tiny view of the page that an external link links to.

*looks at that sentence for a long time.* It's crap English, but you know what I mean, I think. Anyway, anytime you put your cursor on an external-to-LJ link, you get a little popup and it's annoying the crap out of me, but I think it's stabbed through the heart with a wooden stake fixed now.

Ah. News to me. I don't think my browser is allowing those. (Safari on OSX 10.4.xxx) Have you tried disabling popups in your browser prefs or security controls?

I'd rather not disable all popups, as some of the sites I shop from use them. I just don't need mini-webpages appearing whenever I'm trying to open a new Firefox tab.

Sadly, I followed the above instructions and discovered that I already had the option disabled -- which I fear means that, rather than being able to set it for your own personal browsing options, you're stuck with whether the user or comm you're currently browsing at has the option disabled or not. (Though apparently it doesn't work on my friends page, at least -- just when I pull up a separate tab to view a particular entry.)

Never mind, you've already been informed. Yes, it's bloody annoying, and I can't even find the option in my Firefox browser to block content.

I think it kills the pop-ups on your own blog but not on other people's blogs. Funny thing: the first snap preview I saw on LJ, the one that prompted/reminded me to turn them off on my own LJ, was on your blog last night. So, thanks for the reminder, and glad I could return the favor. :-)

Yep, I was right. I just checked it on a comment in someone else's blog. I moused over it while logged-in and not-logged-in, and the pop-up showed up both times. So, checking the box doesn't keep us from seeing them, but at least it keeps us from inflicting it on others.

If you use Opera as your browser, add this URL to your Blocked Content window:

http://shots.snap.com/*

That will disable the pop-ups completely.

I use Firefox (an old version), so the pop-up window still pops up, but now that it's blank it doesn't take as long. It still kinda breaks the back button, though.
