It's patently ridiculous that trips to the Met are so desired and exotic, while trips to the Smithsonian are too much bother. New resolution for 2008: Pay more attention to the home town!

*=planning to attend

I have never been to Eastern Market yet, or Adams Morgan farmers' market.

Folks in the DC metro, Del-Mar-Va, and portions of PA area: What's fun to see, where's good to shop, what's good to eat? History, novelty, and oddities like street fairs and festivals most desired.

I could happily spend a week of my life lost in the Smithsonian. I went to DC with my family when I was in 8th grade, and as far as I'm concerned, it was the highlight of my trip. I absolutely would go back again, and again, and again!

My brother and family live back there and I'd love to go back and take a tour of all the historic sights. I was out there in 1989 when my brother worked in the House of Represenatives as a legislative aide and more recently, two years ago, when he got married. Unfortunately I got very sick from stress and spent most of his wedding reception at Mount Vernon in the car sleeping. Then we had to fly home that night. But I'd love to go back with my hubby and go to the Smithsonian and Historic Williamsburg.

*waves* Let me know if you want to meet up for the Cherry Blossom festival, now that I'm actually within a reasonable distance of it via Metro.

Or a random "pick a Smithsonian museum" day...

That Christmas concert, I'll be singing in. Just in case that inspires you to shove an asterisk on there or anything. :-)

Oh, figures!

Familiarity breeds contempt. Smithsonian isn't exotic to a Washingtonian. But it's fun.
