Sunday not-quite 7: Am rethinking the whole Sunday 7/Resolutions thing because it's not that I'm not doing anything, it's that they don't fit neatly into "one odd job/three things tossed/one major task scratched off the list" format. Also, a bit depressed about looking at the list of things to do for this weekend and half are undone because I've just spent the morning working on the Martha fanmix so I can have it for the Media*West drive.

As next weekend is spent half in NYC and the weekend after that is spent entirely in East Lansing, I'm going to give myself two weeks off to ponder how I'm going to reformat this.

Speaking of Media*West, I find myself somewhere between nostalgic and... something, haven't figured out the word for it. In the pre-Internet days, it was pretty much THE only place to get your year's supply of fanfic, see vids, or buy fan art. I think about that sometimes as [livejournal.com profile] who_daily and [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_three tally up the daily tsunami. While it's great to have fandom on tap 24/7, it also seems that something has been, for lack of a better word, devalued. It's like reviewing books & going to the author/publisher-based cons: books become less a frigate to far worlds than swappable commodities and to some degree just clutter.

And speaking of instant fandom, [livejournal.com profile] gijenny (That didn't take long!) is up and running with some nice short fic. Better yet, [livejournal.com profile] wendymr has a short that goes into the Doctor's POV of the best conversation in last night's episode. Read. Now. Have tissues.

[livejournal.com profile] violetisblue has a link to On Having a Black Name. My name isn't something I think about much as a racial tag - Nea is short for something Scandinavian, for which I could pass - but it's unusual enough that now and then people are surprised when I walk in the door. And in fandom, bitching about the treatment of black characters in Beauty and the Beast back in the day and Doctor Who now has gotten my background questioned/shock when I show up in person.

Off to do some more odd-jobbing before T arrives. My main goal for the weekend is to be able to mostly *see* the library table, if not clear it off.

A major drawback to the Internet Age is the ability of virtual friends and networks eclipsing real space friends and networks. Ironicaly, it's also a major plus: you don't have to drive across country for the rare weekend chance to see friends with shared interests.

Part of my problem with living in the 'burbs is the need to pile on the mileage to see my friends. It's a preferred alternative to being stuck with a friends pool without shared interests.
