So you all know about Poohcifer the embroidery machine. (Now home and working, yay!) And you know that when I'm bored at work I plug random search terms into ebay, which is how I ended up with Poohcifer in the first place.

Well, I'm at work. And I'm, uh, between deadlines. So I'm surfing around, and right now I'm looking at places where I can buy embroidery designs. I already knew about Embroidery.com and I knew that I could go to ebay and search on "brother embroidery card" and get a moderately decent selection at a slightly discounted price.

But now go to ebay and type in "PES embroidery" Don't specify the machine or the card (since I have the software to download to a rewriteable card anyway.) Just type that.

Oh my, oh my, oh my....

I'm so frickin' doomed.

Um...let me look up the website for my conversion software when I get home. 'Cause it's a whopping $65 to register, and I adore it. Everyone and their dog has Way Cool Designs out there for free, except for the part where most of them are for Viking because Viking is the Microsoft of embroidery machines (curse them and their lucrative JoAnn contract!). I have a Janome, which I love and adore and nobody seems to digitize for.

This package (I believe it's called Embird, but don't quote me -- haven't done anything in too long, and may be getting it confused with another shareware I have) not only converts to every embroidery machine file format I have ever seen in my life, it also resizes and edits like a dream. Much more easily and flexibly than the software that came with my machine, which I now only use when digitizing directly from a graphic.

I love it lots. :-D

I've got PE-Design, which theoretically lets me convert from other formats and design my own stuff, but I haven't taken the time to sit down and learn it yet.

On the other hand, I'm not adverse to hearing about other, easier patterns! Gee, when I got Poohcifer I figured the 4x4 embroidery pattern was on its way out, but it looks like there are billllyuns and billllyuns of options.

Dunno how PE-Design compares, but Embird is found at:

http://www.embird.com/

They're up to $80, looks like, but still more than worth it in my book.
