Knitting:
I have given up and asked for an invite to Ravelry, because so many pattern links led there. I don't expect to spend much time there, though, because I don't have the time to spend.

I am also trying to decide the best cable length to get for cable needles for knitting shawls. 60" seems a bit long to carry around, but that would be about the width of the shawl, and also is good for blankets. I don't know if I could get away with a 40" cable for a fingertip-to-fingertip shawl.

Am also pondering the possibilities of designing a garter lace tudor rose pattern.

Fandom:
Keeping this vague... I have just discovered that a con I wouldn't miss for the world has invited a guest I wouldn't spit on if they were on fire. Such is the way of things; I suppose I should budget extra money so I can spend one guest talk in the dealer's room each day, out of wank's way. Or perhaps spend it in a panel.

Speaking of which, I've just suggested a panel for ChicagoTARDIS, because IIRC, they're going to have a handful of Short Trips authors on hand and the Big Finish people are already guests. It would be really nifty to have a tie-in author/publisher panel. I'm not sure if I've made this suggestion to the right person, though.

I can tell I'm exhausted... I'm not running in circles squeeing over the spoilers that have one corner of fandom having multiple fangasms. And it's such fabulous news, too!

[livejournal.com profile] renn's the person to talk to. That's what Christa and Lars and I do.

Ah, then I may have. It was over on [livejournal.com profile] nnwest's LJ, and I got the impression that [livejournal.com profile] renn either was or knew the right ear.

It would be a good panel, don't you think? Both sides of the story.

Oh, that would be a panel I'd attend, if I were going!
(having just finished devouring three of the Torchwood novels -- the other three are on order)

Forgive me stupidity -- when is Chicago TARDIS, again?
(alas, my older sister no longer resides in a Chicago suburb, so I no longer have access to free crash space)

40" does seem a little on the short side. If you're going to fold up the work and coil up (or, you know, bend up) the cable for toting around, why not get a 60"?

I don't spend a ton of time on Ravelry either, but it's useful as a filing system.

Why not indeed? Hmmm. It's fortunate that the favorite du jour is also a surprisingly inexpensive needle!

gotta love UNIT...sometimes.

They've being completely schizophrenic in New Who: in the main show, UNIT is bad, but in the SJA, it's the same old heroes of yore. I'd like it if they manage to deal with *that* issue at some point.

Thank you! Best DW-related news I've heard all week! I have sorely missed his presence. Although it's for SJA and not the main show, I'll take it. For now. They had better treat him right though!

Ravelry! Finally! Woo!

Filing system, and to see what others have done with that yardage/yarn/pattern alterations.

It's where I found out how many beads it takes to bead a Clapotis in a certain way. So that's how many I strung on. *grin*

I don't get on Ravelry every day, but it's very useful for the purposes I use it for -- inspecting other knitters' projects using this pattern or yarn (very useful, especially when the pattern you're contemplating doesn't itself have very good FO photos) and cataloging my own projects and stash, as well as keeping a queue of projects I'd like to maybe do at some point in the future. Also there are bulletin boards I rarely use, but they're a good place to go for knitting-related questions.

I'm spending more time on ravelry recently, because I've been following some conversations in the Doctor Who forum. Beyond that I've got my knitting books up and might manage to get my projects and yarn up this summer.

And Spoiler!Squee!

Also, how thick is the yarn for the shawl? Because I've done entire afghans on 40" cables, IIRC, and that with worsted weight yarn.

Kitchen cotton - I'm doing a garter lace that should be nice-looking but I want a shawl that will take a fair amount of abuse.
