Random commentary

I am very glad of the "post to" button at the bottom of the page, because without that, I would have just posted the contents of
soniclipstick to
screwdoctor.
Wherefore the icon.
Also begging use of the icon is a comment that I am simply going to throw out there rather than aim at any single post. Y'know what makes me most crazy about the argument that "Miss Evangelista is proof that Moffat thinks women are either beautiful *or* smart but can't be both!"? It's not just that it ignores every other Moffat female character (hello, Reinette?). It's not that it ignores the last few minutes, wherein we meet a smart *and* pretty Evangelista. It's that it pretty much states that River Song, Donna Noble, *and* Anita in the very same episode are all either brain-damaged or dogs.
I have joined Team TARDIS on Ravelry for the Ravelympics, for which I shall knit a scarf. It may be my own stitch pattern; I'll see how a sample knits up on Wednesday. Any idea how to capture one of those nifty Ravelympics icons for use here on LJ?
I seem to be addicted to
fandomsecrets and I don't even know 3/4 of the fandoms involved.

Date: 2008-08-05 08:30 am (UTC)I think those who put forth this argument, plain and simply, cannot grasp that characters and the writers who write them don't share the same opinions. All of the attractive & intelligent women Moffat writes in Who (or anywhere else) won't hold a candle to the stated opinion of one character providing important exposition in one episode because, clearly, that character is only there to be a mouthpiece and must be what he actually thinks.
That convoluted thinking makes me want to *headdesk*, too.

Date: 2008-08-05 10:25 am (UTC)What gets me is how comments at conventions are suddenly proof that he can't and won't write what we've already seen on screen. That is such a world of *headdesk* that I don't even know how to rebut it.

Date: 2008-08-05 10:52 am (UTC)"Clearly, Moffat has been stealth writing all this time to get the job, so that he can now advance the sexist white male agenda through Doctor Who. The evil bastard. Your brilliance and insight at discerning this fact astounds me."

Date: 2008-08-05 10:27 am (UTC)For all I know, he really is a dickweed. For all I know, he doesn't like women. But I certainly know what he writes, and what he writes are some of the strongest women in Who.
