I just discovered
tv_elf has died. I didn't know her well; we were mostly the friend-of-a-friend to each other, with our shared territory a single mailing list that was mostly killed off by LJ.
But I knew her, and knew her to be a good person, and a fun one, and the part that's gutting me the most is looking at her still-active journal and seeing the ephemera of an engaged life and (most heartbreaking of all) yuletide requests in the confident hope of actually being there to read them.
Memento moris used to be skulls and bones and things that lost their thoughtfulness many halloweens ago. Now they're phosphor on screen and they're devastating.
