Shallow Nea is still shallow

The BBC has posted a denial that Tennant's injury will delay shooting of the next Who special, (set to begin 9 days after the end of Hamlet) which seems to be in response to the half-dozen articles saying he'll be recuperating up to three months.

Weirdly, I'm relieved that there is vague confirmation that he is going to be recuperating a long time. I'm resigned to not seeing him onstage this trip, moreso as today's Soniclippy reading list included a rave review of Rowan Atkinson and Burn Gorman in Oliver. Five actors out of six isn't bad.

Not that the RSC would bother confirming that he won't be back. Not when I'm already getting defensive emails *and* snailmail pointing out that they will not be giving refunds because they ARE still putting on the show. I bet they'll be hinting he could still return right up to the final performance.

He's not returning to Hamlet, and that special either will be delayed in filming or they'll be rewriting scenes in light of his injuries very quickly. It's back surgery, for God's sake, I'm surprised there are pictures of him walking around at all (and given that one of them shows him visibly wincing in pain at the walking around, yeah).

I'm a bit surprised he's walking without a cane - but I'm also wondering if part of that pain wasn't because the paparazzi were up in his grill the minute he stepped out of his house.

Depending on the story, they may not need to rewrite so much as reschedule, pulling all the quieter scenes to the beginning of filming.

It looked more like actual physical pain to me than annoyance, but of course who knows. I'm just amazed he's already walking at all post-discectomy/laminectomy/whatever they did to him.

They've also got a pretty good stunt/body double for him- if worse came to worst. They might have to figure out new ways to shoot scenes- but hey- It CAN be done! They did MOST of a season of Xena-Warrior Princess with her flat one her back after a back injury!
