I really shouldn't be posting a cheerful post right after Barbara's memorial...

...but my hard drive has been returned, is working, and has lost nothing, and I'm awfully "Yay!" about that. Also, I'm enjoying the heck out of the DVD commentary meme game.

I suggest you might consider backing up the ones you have to have. Put them on CD or something. Just in case.

Out of curiosity, how does that DvD commentary meme work? Any chance you could point to an example?

I'd have to dig around for a post with the official wording; mine is about 3 posts down. Basically, you post that you will answer any questions about a fic that are asked, and then post (I've been doing it in comments because I've been posting so much) with the background of the story or of scenes and dialog.
