I'm not sorry I came, but I'm not registering for next year. Maybe if the economy picks up, I'll buy a membership later. But... while it's great to see friends face to face, especially the ones I *only* see at M*W, that was a very long drive for not much con. It's not that it's been bad; it hasn't. It's everything I want and expect out of MediaWest... but with the volume dialed down to 1 instead of cranked up to 11.

Although... I must say, the "add your own face" doorway (with a standup of the Tenth Doctor) is a fun one. (Two standups - one of David and one of a female character I don't recognize, and a whole wall of tack-on faces from other fandoms to choose to add.) It's a bit frightening how well Dobby's face fit over David's. I'm glad I saw that!

My biggest frustration is that M*W was always the fanzine con, and I've only got Brotherhood to come home with. Is there a Torchwood version of [livejournal.com profile] calufrax?

Sorry the Con has dwindled so much. :(

It's had dips before; this year the economy and the hotel problems were an insurmountable double-whammy. It's probably going to climb back up in a couple of years when the hotel figures out what it's doing and more importantly, more fans have discretionary cash again.

But between now and then I think next year will be worse, because I'm quite likely not the only person who registered for things last year, when I felt flush, but is not renewing for next year because I don't have the cash right now.

I hope things improve next year - I hope the economy picks up and the renovations get completed. My room left something to be desired.

If you're not going next year that really does feel like the beginning of the end.

I'm probably going to repeat this comment a lot - I can't be the only person who bought memberships in and budgeted for conventions last year, when things weren't quite this bad, but will have to skip next year because con money isn't available now. So I won't be surprised if next year's con is even smaller.

(Painfully, I was reminded at the con that The Turtle Moves - a new North American Discworld con - is this year. Not even a remote possibility now.)

OTOH, if there's a M*W 31, hopefully we'll be on the bounce back up.

Drive safely!

Sorry that the con was disappointing this year :( I know how much you'd been looking forward to it. Hope your panels went well, at least.

The panels went fairly well. (Although if I don't go next year, at least my fellow Big Finish panelists will finally get a word in edgewise!)

I'm not *that* disappointed in the con. If nothing else, I'm glad I went because otherwise I would have been assuming that I'd missed a fabulous time and not have believed any reports otherwise. :) And I got to see [livejournal.com profile] jennetj, [livejournal.com profile] bentleywg, [livejournal.com profile] momthemerciless, and [livejournal.com profile] signeh, none of whom I ever get enough time with, with bonus long conversations with people I *only* see at M*W.

On the other hand it's a VERY long and draining (and this year, terrifying) drive and I feel I should be getting a little more entertainment for the effort, if that makes sense. If I'd only driven an hour or two, I'd've enjoyed it more even if it was this quiet.

So, I'm assuming that there was a pre registration line? Did it seem like people were signing up for next year?

There was, and it looked like there was a steady stream of people. They're certainly *intending* to have a convention next year, and it's still the least expensive out there, as it has next to no overhead.
