How long does it take for voter registration changes to go through the DMV, and how do you find out if/where you are registered to vote?

I have a horrible feeling I've disenfranchised myself temporarily - and this year of all years!

It's a simple progression. My driver's license address has the township where the post office is. My actual house is over the line in another town that is covered by the same P.O. The town where I live has asked residents to make sure that their driver's licenses reflect the proper town, because the gov't apparently uses DMV records in part to determine population. So, as my license was due to expire in roughly 8 weeks, when I renewed it, I changed my address to the proper town.

The computer automatically spit out a change of address voter registration form.

*blink* I haven't actually moved, but went ahead and filed it, checking "change of address" since my address had, well, changed.

Now I'm wondering if I should have left well enough alone. I'm also seriously considering applying for an absentee ballot, since that will:

1) Let me know if I'm still registered to vote, and
2) Bypass the rumored shennanigans with the electronic voting machines.

Yes, I probably should have left well enough alone until the next license cycle. But I didn't, so now I have to figure out how to play the cards I've dealt myself.

I don't remember if it's one month or two in advance before the election that you have to register, but check it NOW. You still have time.

I don't know how MD works for DMV stuff, but VA has a website that you can check out damn near everything on.

Call the League of Women Voters. They'll help you.

Looked through the Maryland Voter information under keeping your address current. It sounds like if you filled out the card at the DMV, you should get a new voter card in 3-4 weeks.

don't have problems like this in Wisconsin - the place that drives the GOP crazy because we let people register to vote at the voting both.

Echoing other comments--I'd say (and it's been my experience that this is true) that witin thirty days you'll have a new voter resgistration card...

Of course, depending on which party you're signed up to support, it's likely you'll be put on some sort of gov't "person of interest" watch list. And who knows how big your FBI file is by now.

Just call the election board and find out if you're registered and where you'll vote.
