My fannish prognostication skills are sliding better than 50% with the announcement that there *is* no announcement of a Doctor Who movie at SDCC. That never passed the logic test with me - why announce a British movie with British funding and a mainly British audience at an American convention?

(For anyone keeping score, my predictions of "That's totally not happening" are wrong twice, right three times... although I still insist that the idea of Jack clinging to the outside of the TARDIS in flight is so ludicrous that no one should have been able to believe it... even after it aired.)

I'm still relieved nonetheless. Of course, even Criswell points and laughs at my prognostication failure rate so if I'm convinced it's true, it's definitely never gonna happen.

ETA: Also, I can never watch that scene of Jack clinging to the TARDIS without cracking up at how much it looks like this.

I haven't seen the pen clip in a while...

There may be a Who movie someday; there were before. But I'll be staggered if it's announced on American soil when all the fans remember the hashup the McGann movie was. And I doubt it'll happen starring someone who has publicly moved on.

The McGann thing and Torchwood being a much bigger hit here than the parent show.

The Torchwood popularity part is what I'm assuming is fueling the rumor that Torchwood S4 (which a suspiciously unnamed BBC person oddly hanging around SDCC has announced on the QT). The paired rumor is that S4 will be set in America because Torchwood is such a hit for BBCA. Is BBCA allowed to even set up its own unique programming? Would the BBC permit use of a brand created and funded with British tax money to be crewed and shot with Americans?

I'm thinking A) yeah, right, I'll believe it when there are names attached, B) no, and C) when hell freezes over.

Y'know who I feel sorry for? Cardiff tourism. Torchwood was good to them.

...So good that I'd be more than a little surprised that if there was an S4 there wasn't MAJOR internal pressure to take it the hell back to Wales.

Don't look at me, I don't know anything about how any of this industry stuff works.

Is there any confirmation that Barrowman and Eve Myles are even going to be in it? She sounded fairly confident that she was.

John hasn't said anything. I'm assuming that Eve has every right to assume that she would be in the next anything unless told otherwise.

That's what I mean, I think it's interesting that she's speaking on the basis of definitely being in it and he's being cagier. Maybe they both know something we don't.

Right now, I doubt there's any ink on any contracts - or even any contracts. Just a lot of waiting and seeing and vague promises. I find it particularly pertinent that Neil Wilke's Digital Spy liveblog of the SDCC Who panel contains *both* a confident "I was told by insiders there would be a movie announcement and it would star X" and later on the same page "They have just announced that there's no movie being announced."

In other words, there's a whole lot of insider information being whispered... and it's all obviously worth the paper it's written on. (Which is why I'm taking the news of Torchwood's S4 renewal with enough salt to pickle me.)

I seriously think there's nothing solid to be known yet. However, I wouldn't be surprised if RTD told her that she's definitely in whatever happens; she's certainly the Rose of Torchwood and we know how well he could let go of her.
