I draw vast amounts of amusement that the Children of Earth for Children in Need (Thank you James Moran) charity is stalled out just below 300 quid, while Ianto Wants A Pony is at 720 and Save Ianto (Children in Need) is over 4,000. Talk is cheap and Internet postings are cheaper, but this is fandom putting its money where its mouth is. It's the world's most productive smackdown.

And it's fandom doing worlds of good for Children in Need from all directions, not to mention the Lluest Horse and Pony Trust. Fandom and charity are always A Good Thing.

What would be really cool would be if this were how fandom conducted all future ship wars. "Donate and PROVE [Companion X] cares more about kids with cancer than [Companion Y]!"

That would be so seriously cool! Well, now that the precedent has been set, we can but hope it will be imitated.

Be a LOT more useful in the long run than sending peanuts or what have you to producers and companies...

I especially love the Ianto Wants a Pony charity idea (and I've donated to it); as my housemate pointed out, there are probably many more horses and donkeys being abandoned now, with the recession, and it's a charity people wouldn't otherwise have heard of. I'd love for this to become the done thing in fandom wars - it doesn't hit my embarrassment squick the way "mail things to the producers!"/"protest ads on the side of buses!" do.

I'd love it to become the standard too. Back in the BatB war, one side took out a full-page ad in Variety to tell the producer where to lump it, and one of the BNFs on the other side wrote a letter showing all the ways that money could have been better spent.

This combines the opinion and the better spent all in one, and it still garners attention - note that the BBC hasn't mentioned the coffee, but they have mentioned Save Ianto. Which means they are *aware* of Save Ianto.

Hell hath no fury like a fangirl scorned - and what a productive way of directing said fury!

I love this method of counting coup in a fanwar! Best. Idea. Ever.
