Aaaaand I'm unresigned from Reviewing the Evidence. Actually, we've reached a compromise: I'm not an active reviewer, but I promise to send in stuff if there's something that really deserves a review.

Thing is, I haven't burned out on Holmes or forensics or meta about mysteries (books about the history of Nancy Drew or biographies of Doyle/Sayers/whoever), and those also count for RtE, as does any other genre as long as there's a puzzle or a corpse in the plot.* It's just cozies that are giving me a rash.

So in other words, I only have to review what I *want* to read/listen to, and send 'em in on my own schedule. Sweet!

I can live with it.

This means there's a gap. Yvonne ever get back to you? Should I say something?

She did indeed. Unfortunately she wanted me to collect the books - which is impossible since I don't have transport - and can't really afford train fare down to Cheltenham to collect them!

!!! Sorry about that. I get 'em in the mail, but I'm seriously not local.

Well the person over here told me that they can't afford to mail them out, which I guess is fair enough, but neither can I afford to trek down to Cheltenham! She did say there was someone to whom she could give the books to deliver to me, but nothing's come of that...

Just one of those things, I guess...

I sympathize with cozies giving you a rash. One once in a while is brain candy, but HAVING to read them would be like being force-fed jellybeans. Even one can be too much-- "Excuse me, while you're having so much fun chatting away about knitting or dog-walking or amateur theatrics, does anybody give a whoop about that CORPSE of somebody you KNEW being found in your LIVING ROOM about fifty pages ago...?"

That's the best thing about Spencer-Fleming: she gives you well-rounded characters you care about, who care about the other people. I also love Martha Grimes because I care about her primary characters, and her continuing secondary characters are a hoot and a half.

That is not a bad analogy. I've had it up to here with "cute" characters worried more about their love lives than anything else. The series I've seen rise and fall...

Agreed wholeheartedly about S-F. That and there was a good reason for there to be UST with her main characters, as opposed to something ridiculous pasted on out of misapprehensions and jealousy.

Y'know, I'm not sure I've read any Grimes.

I am looking forward to the next Stanton, too. She at least has come up with a *really* unique idea!

I recommend getting one of RDjr naked with the pillow from the movie. :D

(I need a reading icon and I've finally got a shot of Matt Smith next to the TARDIS, which I needed to make his version of my Dr icon. He's going to look a bit like this one, actually...)

I kind of like the shot where Holmes and Watson are sitting back to back after Watson saved Holmes from the giant chain and spindle on the dock. I'm just too lazy to get on the computer that has Photoshop installed and screencap it.

I also need a better Eleventh Doctor icon, preferably one using teh pretty new shot I was drooling over yesterday.

Looks like you got your icon! I still need to make mine - I've got the shot, now I need to make the time. I have Rules about my first Doctor icon: has to be him alone next to/getting in/coming out of the TARDIS. It's been surprisingly hard to get a Matt shot under those circumstances. (It's a surprisingly hard shot to get fairly often. It's the alone part of the rule.)

Yep! I couldn't get the screencap I wanted of Holmes and Watson, so I went Holmes-icon-shopping on LJ and found this lovely one by [livejournal.com profile] savedean.

Then I was in an icon mood, so I broke down and did a better Moff Tiem Nao icon on my own computer in Appleworks (which I HATE). I could go off on a rant about the Adobe Creative Suite 2 that I paid multi-hundreds of dollars for only a couple of years ago being completely unsupported on my new(ish) Mac OS X 10.6 laptop, but I'll spare you.

Still, I guess Appleworks got the job done. More or less. After a lot of growling and keyboard pounding.

Maybe I'll learn GIMP, just to teach Adobe a lesson about customer aftercare. *pouts*

Couldn't be happier for you!

Ok. I could be - you could hit a multi-million dollar lottery,
or have foreign king throw his crown at your feet, but,
you get the picture...
