LJ, Fount of all knowledge

*shakes crystal ball* Oh, LJ, Fount of All Knowledge: recommend unto me exercise DVDs or routines. (Nothing that will bugger a bad knee any worse than it is, please.) I need to get beyond "ho, hum, treadmill."

I like the Veena and Neena "Slim Down" workout, myself.

I've enjoyed "Yoga for Wimps" and "Pilates for Wimps". I think they're both available from Netflix. (I always try to rent a workout DVD before I buy it, just in case I hate it.)

Put on really loud music. Boogie. Scare the cats. It's fun, it burns a surprising amount of calories, and you'll probably find yourself laughing before you're done.

I personally like the Kathy Smith Ultimate Video Workout (from way back in the 80's), but it ain't pretty on the knees, it's high impact.

However, Kathy Smith also has a Yoga Basics video that's pretty good and definitely not high impact.

Since you've already got the treadmill, you may want to look at the iTread downloads at iTrain.com. I haven't been using it much recently, but I really really liked them when I did--each workout is designed so you can take them at your own level, and they've got pretty good music. I'd be happy to send you one of the ones I own if you want to test it out.

Minna Lessig's One Minute workout is the only workout DVD I own. Set the amount of time you want to work out and it does a random selection of 1 Minute exercises. There are options for upper body only (also lower body or whole body) and several levels of strenuousness. Anything else I've tried has fallen victim of my short attention span.

I should really get back in the habit of using it.

I like the dummie exercise tapes.
they really do explain things well - pilates for dummies excellent, and there is a weightloss pilates tape through dummies, too, which is a great workout

I have one of Leslie Sansone's dvds ("Walk At Home", IIRC), and while I don't have much to compare it to, I like it well enough. I *think* it would count as low impact - it's aerobics involving both upper and lower body, but the movements are based on walking instead of jumping or running. If you search for her name on Youtube, you can find excerpts from most of her dvds to see what they're like.

I love the DVD my trainer did: Core Training for Belly Dancers. It's got a bunch of wonderful exercises for strengthening your core -- abs and back -- and for flexibility. Email me if you'd like more specifics. I've provided a testimonial on his website, and highly recommend it. For info on ordering the DVD, go to: fitnesspharaoh.com.
