I wonder how many people will get that obscure title?

I was supposed to clear out the basement this weekend; I'm not going to. What is on my list of things to do today:
- Delete shelter facebook from Firefox browser bar
- Cross out "X of weeks missing" from calendar
- Cross out "check shelters" from calendar

Other things to do today: wash Mulder. The vet (and [livejournal.com profile] redpanda13) said we probably didn't need to, but it's not going to hurt him and it's going to make us feel better. We're also going to take him out of quarantine when his collar has been bought and put on. The idea of keeping him separate from the others was breaking down every time Gytha tried to break into the bathroom to see him. And after holding him close in my lap, carefully washing my hands, and then having DB jump into my lap, the idea of keeping the other cats shielded from whatever virus he may have picked up isn't really working.

I have killed the fatted can of gooshy food for the prodigal son. I had hoped to sneak him a can of his own without the other cats noticing, but they pay very close attention to that area of the kitchen and were all, "Hello? Who did NOT scare you two to death for a fortnight? What are we, chopped liver?"

I'm going to try to get a photo of the official sister/brother reunion. I've been behind on my kitten pictures.

Monstrous Regiment is one of my favorite PTerry standalones; I don't understand why some people hate it. :(

I've been playing catch-up with my flist, and I'm so glad you found Mulder :D Meanwhile, my own prodigal cat Ebony is off with yet another girlfriend-kitty and left the Turk to his J.D., Ivory, cranky and morose. And yowly.

(btw, Ivory is a ginger cat. Don't ask me, I didn't name him :P)

It's the one that got M into Pratchett. I feel the same way about Going Postal - why do people dislike it so? It's brilliant!

I hope Ebony returns soon. It sounds like he heads off often?

I like Going Postal too! And I'm excited about the TV adaptation. It's better than Making Money, which was unusually blah. Well, Pterry DID find out about his Alzheimer's at the time, so...

Ebony does strike off on his own a lot, but fortunately he doesn't stray too far. And he ducks back every other day for food. That little bastard. :D

Making Money grew on me, although I prefer Postal and am eagerly awaiting the adaptation.

Terry Pratchett - Monstrous Regiment

Not my most favourite Discworld, but I keep thinking I should give it a re-read. Must ask my mum to mail it to me, since it's sitting on a shelf in my parents' house.

Looking forward to the photos.

I didn't think much of it when I first read it, but it's grown on me. Although I think he overplayed his hand at the end.

I didn't think much of it, either, and thus haven't re-read it.

I find that the ones I didn't like when I read them are often ones I like when I hear them in audio. Whereas I don't like the audios of the ones I liked reading, because I had such a clear picture in my head of what they should be.

I've only heard one audio of a Pratchett tale - "Guards, Guards" - which was aired on BBC radio *many* years ago.

That was such an awful version I couldn't even listen to more than 10 minutes. I'm not even that fond of Nigel Planer - the original narrator - but a while ago Stephen Briggs took over and I love his stuff.

Oh this was a full cast dramatisation, not Nigel Planer doing a reading...

I know - I'm saying that I didn't like that dramatization *nor* am fond of Planer's take.

"What are we, chopped liver? Although, now that we say it, some chopped liver would be nice, actually... perhaps with a garnish of crumbled catnip and a sprinkling of caviar..."

I'm so happy for you! May your cat-washing experience be better than mine, which generally goes something like this:

Pick up cat, attempt to lower gently into kitchen sink full of warm water. Cat shoots three legs out it different directions to brace against edges of sink.

Raise cat. Rotate 90 degrees. Attempt to gently lower cat into sink. Cat shoots different legs out to brace against edges of sink.

Raise cat again. Rotate 90 degrees...

Actually, he was INCREDIBLY well-behaved about the whole thing, and didn't attempt to scratch, bite, disembowel, or otherwise maim the double-team of washers, but instead endured it all with a certain googly-eyed stoicism. Didn't even meow, and he has certainly found his adult voice since he's been gone.

I've always been amused by the cartoon I remember from years ago, of a husband walking through the living room in a full set of armour and chain maille, and the wife says, "Off to wash the cat?" Now, if we attempted to wash Kaylee, the chain maille might be necessary...

I'm holding onto the phrase "a certain googly-eyed stoicism" for use in an unspecified future writing project!

He was pretty good with the two of us hogtying him. Only really struggled when the tick we found did NOT want to come off of a sensitive place.

Poor baby. :-(

Stupid ticks have NO sense of propriety... and no useful contribution to the ecosystem, as far as I can tell.

It was a cling-on that was really clinging...

He's pretty lucky; seems like he's come through with the two ticks and a scratch - and a renewed interest in life inside, because he hasn't even LOOKED at the door today.

Although the found tick count is now up to 4. He's such a plush baby that the ticks are proving to be very hard to find. I'm starting to re-think letting him out of quarantine so early...
