I am looking for a good art deco or art nouveau computer font (PC). Free preferred, purchase possible. Any recommendations?

My favorite free font site. I'd browse Fancy->Retro.

My bookmarks are all at home. I csan rec dsites after work.

No font says Art Deco quite like Broadway, though Bauhaus (despite the name) comes close.

I'm looking for something lighter weight than Broadway; am considering adding monograms or maybe a motto to the painting somewhere.

I take it you're looking for a display font? I mean, not something for body text in a book or anything, just for a few words? Are the archived for reference images something along the lines of what you're looking for?

There's a family of Charles Rennie Mackintosh inspired fonts from CRM Font Company (hence the name) here (personally, I'd go for Stems with that one, I like the weight and delicacy of it). They're 25-30 dollars. If you're looking for less quirk, and more suitable for larger pieces of text, there's things like Kolo or Benguiat which are more standard. (I'm not a big free font fan, I'm afraid, you get what you pay for with fonts and they're worth the money.)

I'd suggest going to MyFonts, their pricing's really good and they sell all the weights separately. If you check out their tags like Art Deco or Art Nouveau, you can change the sample text and compare all the fonts in that category and see what they look like. If you like one, you can buy it directly from there or you can google around and see if you can find it elsewhere.

Yes, precisely on the few words and the archived reference images - I'm thinking of adding a monogram or a motto or two to the paint job and need a good alphabet. Maybe I should have been searching Arts and Crafts Movement instead of Deco all along, but they're kind of intertwined for a decade or so. The CRM fonts are absolutely PERFECT! Now I have to decide if I want Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Glasgow, or Stems... or possibly a combination.

Well, good luck with it, let us see what you do, yeah?

(Oh, and if the Macintosh is too tall for your purposes, there's always Willow, which I love.)

Oh, I guarantee that there will be pictures! The question is when the kitchen gets done. I've already moved the bathroom ahead of it.

The Roycrofters' Arts and Crafts font & ornaments is/was available from PS22 Type foundry; I have it on diskette which does me no good anymore, and have been meaning to look into replacing it. Would love to hear what you find.

I think the links on this thread are going to be it - the stuff [livejournal.com profile] tencrush sent me to above is beautiful.

It is, indeed. And I found the font I was talking about here:

http://www.p22.com/products/artsandcrafts.html

I've got a sentimental attachment to the Roycrofters; I think objectively the Mackintosh font is a bit more graceful, but I'm happy to see that this can be mine once again.
