Why did nobody tell me that Legend of the Cybermen was such glorious crack? I put off listening to it because I'd spoiled myself for a major plot point, and I've been missing some seriously twisted fun.

(The Doctor's matter-of-fact answer to "What was THAT?" is NEVER going to get old!)

I'm pretty sure I mentioned it - although that might only have been on Twitter... o_O

Hello!

So one day, I decided to hit 'random journal' on livejournal, for the first time. Your journal was the first one to pop up that was in English and I friended you.

I am a novice Doctor Who fan, only recently getting into it. I'm assuming there are radio dramas, since you were listening to it, rather than watching? Am I correct? And where do you find said dramas? I'd like to listen.

Thanks! :)

http://bigfinish.com/Doctor-Who - they've been doing it for a little over 10 years, with stories featuring the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Doctors with original companions (Nyssa, Turlough, recently Tegan, Peri, Mel, and Ace) and some new ones created for each Doctor. Most are done in the classic series style, as 4 25-minute episodes distributed as a 2-cd set (and are also available as downloads).

Some classic villains have returned, often played by classic series actors (Terry Malloy as Davros, for example). Daleks and Cybermen are all voiced by writer-director-producer Nick Briggs, who also does their voices for the current TV series.

There's now almost 135 core stories, plus 3 seasons of single-hour stories done for BBC Radio 7 featuring Doctor 8 (these are done more like the modern tv series is), and a number of specials, first person narratives from companions, spinoffs involving only companions or villains (Daleks, Davros, or Cybermen), and even a set of alternate universe stories.

Hi there! I hope you enjoy - my signal-to-noise ratio is a highly variable one, but I try to keep things interesting.

Yes, there are audio dramas - I see [livejournal.com profile] acroyear70 gave you the link already. In addition to being a subscriber myself, I'm one of the people who reviews them on Unreality SF.

The other major topics around here are cooking and knitting, with lots of other random things thrown in.

I *just* finished it yesterday (having bought it alongside some of the $5 ones to complete the earlies on BFD), so haven't had a chance to talk 'bout it yet.

As with ...ish and others (Scherzo) it really does well to make use of the medium.

However, I think it does require knowing the original (The Mind Robber) more than some other sequels have needed.

I'm not sure about that, having not seen Mind Robber in... ever, actually. Everything I know about it, I learned through fannish osmosis.

being one of the few Troutons that is actually completely intact, it does show up as a source of excerpted scenes pretty often in history-of-who shows. i think it holds up pretty well, myself.

... holy shit, you need to see it like yesterday. It is the most epic thing EVER.

(Especially Zoe vs the Karkus. AND ZOE'S GLITTERY BUM OF SEXUAL AWAKENING.)

It's impossible to miss the Bum of Sparkle - that takes a star turn in just about every icon list and photo montage!

The Karkus is in the original? Okay, now I have to see WTF was going on with that bit. All I could tell from audio alone is that Karkus was much like that fox knight from Labyrinth.
