Blackout

Long story short because I'm posting from work:

Short but nasty storm came through and knocked out power all over the state - last night [livejournal.com profile] fandance, [livejournal.com profile] redpanda13, [livejournal.com profile] boogiebabe_smap, and the LJ-less Doug were all in the dark, and that's an area reaching 3 exits up the highway and sideways about 10 miles.

When I went in today, we had been without power for 14 hours, and something else has gone wrong because the old-fashioned landline phone which does not require the power grid to work... was no longer working.

See previous "all purpose post" for comments; I have no idea when I'll be back online, or if my computer has sustained damage.

(As for the bathroom renovation... first I lose a weekend to reaction from the accident, then I lose at least a day to power outages... I might blow the deadline, but it's not my fault! In fact, July has sucked for most of the people I know; can it be August already?)

I'm all in favour of it being August already if August is going to be less fail!tastic!

*hugs*

Well - I had the accident, Smap was in hospital thinking it was her heart, another person's sister is in the hospital, Smap's dog died, we were all in blackout...

August. August will be A Good Thing.

Fingers and toes are crossed (but only when I'm not walking around!)

Ugh. Hope your computer managed to handle the beating! Sounds a little like the short sharp storms we've been having in bits of NYC (some people in the Bronx were reporting having seen a small twister!).

I wouldn't be surprised if they say later there was a twister. The computer has come through, crossed fingers - I had to start it in "last good mode" or whatever it's called, and I had to reinstall Firefox. But everything else seems to be okay.

It's certainly verging on "We shall never speak of this again."

Amen!

We finally got full power back ourselves at around 1:45am Sunday morning(storm blew through 3-ish Friday afternoon)

It was on when I came home around 3:45ish. We've tossed everything in the fridge, and I had to start the computer in "last confirmed good mode" or whatever it's called, and I had to reinstall Firefox.

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln...

That's a tale of woe and annoyance. I hope it's not so hot there that you are dying without a/c as well. *hug*

It was not pleasant. I'm buying two UPSes with my next paycheck - one for the computer so I can shut it safely, and one spare so we will always have a lamp and a fan.

The only reason we didn't lose power over at work is because GSFC has back-up power for critical areas. Though I did almost get stuck in the elevator when the primary power failed just as the doors were closing. That was a heart-stopping minute or so.

Thankfully the storm wasn't quite as bad up near Baltimore, so my home power wasn't affected, but friends a bit south in Anne Arundel did lose power, too.

It was so bad I was told not to go to my regular building at work - they shuttled us somewhere else that had power!
