The State of the Nea

ACCIDENT:
Geico looked at my car (including seeing some minor damage on the front bumper I'd missed) and offered a number. The check will theoretically be in the mail and be good for six months; if I don't get it by next Wednesday, I'll make a fuss. They say if there's more damage that wasn't seen to have the body shop call them, they'll look at it, and they'll pay for it.
I'm thinking of working with the one of Geico's pet body shops that is Toyota certified. I had thought of taking it back to the dealer and asking them to do the 30,000 service and the body work all at once, but Dad says that Geico might play games if the two services are on the same bill. The dealer where I bought it says that as long as the pet body shop is certified, the warranty will be okay.
In the meantime, I've taken this car to Richmond and back; as long as nobody else rams up my tailpipe, I should be okay tootling around in it until the check comes back.
FOOD EXPERIMENT:
I'm going to go to the orientation for the controlled feeding study. But oh, I wish they'd named it something a little less Lab Rat #21! (Both my parents are in the "yes" category on that vote. Dad thinks I'll learn something about myself. Mother thinks I'm probably going to be sick of cranberries by Thanksgiving.)
REMODELING:
I'm officially 2 weeks behind; I should have finished the bottom painting coat and I'm just at the second spackle. I may have found a way to reduce the finish time, if not the expense - one of the antique stores in Ellicott City has art nouveax stained glass on sale. I'm going to see if I can get a piece to cover the window and another one that might cover the ledge over the sink, instead of lining the window with handcut films to mimic stained glass and building a mural. (Besides, I was thinking of putting the motto "Sore Labor's Bath; Balm of Hurt Minds" in said mural, and my friends include enough Shakespeare geeks to recognize the provenance and say "WTF?")
It will put me ahead to not do all that handwork. On the other hand, I may end up adjusting the costs by not buying new hardware for the bathroom. I stripped the old handles off the vanity a week ago to sell at the TW Yard Sale and am discovering that it's quite easy to just flip doors and drawers open without them. I think I'm going to make the screw holes for the handles the centers of flowers, and I'll look for handles that will fit into the design a few paychecks later.
Aren't you all just fascinated? (Actually, I'd shut up, but every now and then a read a random comment in other blogs that shows people are actually reading about this.)
OTHER
I've become such a fan of Gordon Ramsay, it's pathetic. Although tonight's Warehouse 13 looks like fun, I may wait and watch it on next week's repeat so I can see Master Chef.

Date: 2010-07-28 11:03 am (UTC)This season I'm enjoying it a lot more. It's opposite Gordon Ramsay, but with the magic of the rewatch feature or SyFy's weekly repeat, I can still keep up.
