Via metaquotes, I have found THE best commentary on the "Ground Zero Mosque" controversy:

BULLSHIT RATING: Octuple Kraken-style AAA Prime Unadulterated By-Prescription-Only Bullshit. No 9/11 families are being forced to bear any burden whatsoever; the risk of being called a religious bigot is only run by those who express religiously bigoted opinions; and anyone who claims that Ground Zero is "the last place in America where 9/11 is still remembered" is automatically composed entirely of bullshit and should not be listened to, but rather spread across fertile soil to encourage crop growth.

One more time for the slow class: either you hold it as a self-evident truth that people have inalienable rights or you think that everyone's rights are subject to repeal at any time... and if the latter, do you REALLY want to set the precedent of putting the First & Fifth Amendments up to mob rule?

Luckovich had a great editorial cartoon on 8/13-- three women in NYC holding a sign: "NO YMCAS NEAR GROUND ZERO". One woman says, "On 9/11, America was attacked by MEN!"


And they want to repeal the 14th Amendment too. Defending to the death every original word in the Constitution (and Bible) except the ones they don't like.

I seriously never thought I'd live to see the 14th Amendment being challenged. Apparently there's even a fringe movement to go back to the "original" 13th as well.
