Claire died from kidney disease as well. :(
We noticed she was drinking way too much a few years back and went to the vet. She was diagnosed with renal failure. We helped her as long as she wanted us to, and then let her go.

I'm only today realizing just how much water must have been flowing through Mickey. She was always licking up from sinks and demanding to be the first one at the water, so we didn't notice her drinking more than usual. But wow, is there a difference in the litterbox 48 hours later.
