neadods: (goodbye)

They were my first two.

They're both gone now. Mickey (left) was diagnosed with kidney disease.

Yeah. My boy in the icon is very much in his closing time. The vet's giving him a checkup today while I get the bloody dog's skin allergy sorted. We're in this horrible limbo, because while he's very frail and dodgy he's not actively in pain and is still quite mobile. He certainly knows who and where he is, and wants cuddles and so forth. It's just really hard to know where to draw the line in terms of tipping over the edge into poor quality of life.

Grrrr.

Hope your Mickey-shaped hole heals over kindly.

I figure, if an old pet happy doddering around and not in pain, they're probably okay. But when they get sick, I won't do heroic measures to keep them longer, and I won't wait until they're in pain.

He's staying in to have his teeth cleaned properly under light sedation. Otherwise Michael thinks he's looking hale and hearty enough not to be hitting the panic button, so that's good to know. My instincts haven't let me down yet! And really, given he's the human equivalent of about 130, he's really not doing too badly at all!
