I'd just like to say that I hate popup blockers, because they cause as many problems as they solve. Due to some change in either WebAOL or the work scanner (or both), I can barely read my mail and I can't pop up a window to answer mail to save my life.

On the other hand, the popups when I went to read Chickweed Lane proliferated as normal. Grrrrr!

To have something useful in this ranting, I'm still loving The History of English. As a supplement to the supplement, while I was looking for an Old English Bible online, I found The Polyglot Bible. It's only the book of Luke, but you can do side-by-side comparisons of Early, Middle, Early Modern & Late Modern English, plus 26 other languages.

I also note with interest for the missionary project (haven't forgotten the missionary project!) that Amazon has listed a Hawaiian bible. They don't say if it's both testaments or not, and that's critical. The missionaries might have called themselves Christian, but their outlook on life was pretty Old Testament, and so far they're citing far more OT verses than NT ones in their diaries and letters.

Reasons why I feel bitchy today. )

Just had two small epiphanies:

1) For supplement-heavy classes like The History of English, I should probably expect to listen more than once: the first time is spent scrambling to find the supplements; the next time I can simply concentrate on what is being said. The repeat to be done at least a year later.

2) Although the point of this in the first place was to deal with downtime, and I was thinking that some I'd listen to while I commuted, it wouldn't be a bad idea to listen while I exercised.

Turns out that The Teaching Company is pimping itself by putting some of its lectures online for free download. You have your choice of two lectures on:

Fact and Fiction in The Da Vinci Code
Einstein

I do not entirely trust my computer to pull down and play the DVC lectures, so if some kind soul could rip them to a CD that could be read by a regular computer, I'd be grateful.

Note for the lower tech folks: I found out when I ordered by phone that they offer VHS or audiotape freebies. My last big order came with a side of Roman history.

And, perniciously, if you register with them, you can get an email notice when classes you are interested in go on sale.
