I'm back, I've had a fabulous time, and I'm going to be spamming y'all with posts and pictures for a bit. There are going to be three main posts about Italy (unless I run afoul of the size limits), and then tonight or tomorrow I'll be typing up the fannish stuff I was working on during the plane ride - the next fic in the Torchwood/SJA crossovers (Computer Security in the "A Question of Jurisdiction" cycle) and a defense of Sarah Jane titled "You were my life": Neither Retcon nor Romance.

*This* post is to ask you to catch me up with everything online. Anything major happening to you I should know about? Interesting articles or links? Any good fan essays, fanfic, (even wank)? Are there new installments on the Ten Doctors or Torchwood Babiez cartoons? Let me know!

Also, if you know of any good scrapbooking software, please let me know. I refuse to go buy all the papers and stickers and stuff - the last thing this house or my budget needs is the detritus of yet another hobby - but if you know of any good software where I can import my pictures, add some pretty stuff, play with my many fonts, and then print out the resulting page, let me know.

And now I'm off to turn all my Yahoogroups back to "mail" and read the 144 messages lurking on AOL...

PS - can anyone explain why iTunes has about 100 versions of "Old Time Rock & Roll" and NONE of them are Seger's?

PPS - cracktastic Donna Drabbles at Lady Mako's place.

PPPS - very darling dancing David Tennant vid on YouTube

Forgot to do resolutions before I left. Bugger resolutions. Will say that my review for No Humans Involved is up on www.reviewingtheevidence.com.

Am still reading through 1000 500 50 tabs and need to upload pictures before posting about Italy. How did it get to be noon already?

I *was* going to have lots and lots of pictures and then I realized how much lots and lots and LOTS of time it would take to upload them (not to mention renaming all 278 from "10010243" to what it actually is). So you're only getting the ones I consider the most important under the cut. You're going to find that I have strange notions of importance.

So. I have spent a week in Italy. I have eaten more tomatoes, marscapone, ricotta, mozzarella, and lemons than I think in the entire rest of my life combined. I have also avoided matricide, even at the end when my mother was shouting across the entire bus to me and my brother (both of us in our 40s and experienced travelers) "Do you know how to work the automatic kiosk to get your boarding pass?" [livejournal.com profile] patsyrant, I'm tellin' ya now, I'd put my Mother toe-to-toe with your Poor Sainted Mother any day.

Time to see if this post is too big for LJ or not. Next up - probably tomorrow at this point - Pompeii and the Archeological museum of Naples.

Fic rec: Cracky delight about the Doctor trying to pot Sarah Jane's posse as companions.

The Doctor's enthusiasm was contagious, not least because he was the only sentient being in the universe who didn't think that Sarah's tendency to take fourteen year olds into potentially life threatening situations was a teeny bit reckless.

The new digital camera I bought was an Olympus FE-210. It ate a fair number of batteries, but that appears to have been a combination of my taking old batteries and the fact that it punks out when it heats up - and it heats up quickly if you leave it on, even if it's put to "sleep."

After eating my entire vacation's worth of packed batteries in Pompeii (a combination of heat and age, I think), my brother gave me a pair of the lithium AAs, and those stood me in good stead for several days, taking over 200 pictures, even when hot. Then with fresh regular AAs (and a cool camera) it lasted another day and a half. Definately happier with the lithiums.

Anyway, aside from that, and my inability to set the #@(@)*! date and time so it wouldn't nag me every single time I turned it on!, it was a very good camera. Seriously, a very good one... that like cars that take premium gas, wants to have the premium batteries.

By the way, the icon was made of a picture snapped in the Vatican's map room.
