Dec. 19th, 2008 04:52 pmNo more need to parse between the lines - the RSC has just sent me an email confirming that David will *not* be back before January 3, although they are refusing to say he won't be back at all lest everyone turn in their ticket "holding out hope he'll be back the last week of the run."
I'm going to call what everybody already knows - he's not going to be back at all. There's no way they'd endanger his recovery with all of Hamlet's shenanigans from grave climbing through dueling for the sake of 7 performances. Not when the poor sod can barely walk right now.
ETA, because it's bitchy but true: I paid a lot for this ticket, because I had to get an RSC membership as well just to get my foot in the door. And honestly? As much as I want to see David sometime, as a theatergoer, I'd rather have paid all that to see someone giving their best than a pain-wracked star trying to force his way through a role out of a sense of obligation. Quality > celebrity
