I'm not sorry I came, but I'm not registering for next year. Maybe if the economy picks up, I'll buy a membership later. But... while it's great to see friends face to face, especially the ones I *only* see at M*W, that was a very long drive for not much con. It's not that it's been bad; it hasn't. It's everything I want and expect out of MediaWest... but with the volume dialed down to 1 instead of cranked up to 11.

Although... I must say, the "add your own face" doorway (with a standup of the Tenth Doctor) is a fun one. (Two standups - one of David and one of a female character I don't recognize, and a whole wall of tack-on faces from other fandoms to choose to add.) It's a bit frightening how well Dobby's face fit over David's. I'm glad I saw that!

My biggest frustration is that M*W was always the fanzine con, and I've only got Brotherhood to come home with. Is there a Torchwood version of [livejournal.com profile] calufrax?

For them what care: I've gone to ground at the Somerset Super 8. It's about 3 hours of hard driving home from here, but if I hit the road early, I'll beat all the holiday traffic and have most of Monday to unwind.

For them what travel: Super 8 may not be the last word (or any word) in class and elegance, but they're clean enough and the price is good. Better yet, their website allows you to enter not just a target city but a route and how far you're willing to deviate from it; I've saved around $80+taxes by comparison shopping at a range of stopping points and being willing to go up to 10 miles out of my way.
