Two links stolen from [livejournal.com profile] lizbetann:

For the wordies: The Phrontistery collection of lost words (Why, yes, I am still thinking of changing my LJ name. I keep looking for my aptronym.)

For the knitters: Cloche du Bois knitted hat I don't know why the pattern maker has you knit a certain number of rows flat and then join and then sew up that little slit, but other than that, it looks easy and (for those of us who look good in cloches) flattering.

I love words, however words that are almost entirely unfamiliar hurt my poor dyslexic brain. However provided I don't try and force it to pronounce them I've just read through at least half of the words on that list and have been utterly engrossed.

Looks to me like by working flat and then sewing up the slit, you can do the whole thing in knit stitches. Which I suppose must appeal to some people, but if you're not afraid of purling, there's no reason not to do the whole thing in the round.

Yeah, I was wondering before I saw it if it was one of those things where you're working a special band (like Coronet) that you'd be doing lengthwise, or maybe if it was doing something that you'd very much rather do in the flat than in the round (like intarsia), but looks like just written to avoid purling.

Ooh, shiny!

Have you ever read Forgotten English by Jeffrey Kacirk? He also provides details about the words he covers.
