Via [livejournal.com profile] misscam: Pride and Prejudice as a series of Facebook updates

Lydia Bennet and Kitty Bennet joined the group 1,000,000 Strong Against the Officers Leaving Meryton! {join!}

Lydia Bennet is going to Brighton with Colonel & Mrs. Forster!!!!1!

This is a parody in response to something I linked before, but is always worth another go-around: Hamlet done as a series of Facebook updates

Hamlet wonders if he should continue to exist. Or not.

Hamlet thinks Ophelia might be happier in a convent.

Ophelia removed "moody princes" from her interests.

While I'm discussing - or at least, picking on - literature, what's the deal with this year's seasonal bodicerippers? Every single one I've looked at is a reprint. Every. Single. One. The novels are reprints. The anthology was shuffled together from three previous ones... which is actually better than last year's anthology, which was a reissue of one a mere 4 years old. At least this anthology had stories dating back to '91. (Although, annoyingly, this means I did have it already somewhere anyway.)

The publishers must be sure they'll still sell, or they won't be issuing reprints. But is no one willing to write or pay for a new one?

I have absolutely no idea what icon will appear with this post. I appear to be the latest victim of the "choose an icon, have displayed one that you don't even have" fairy. Fellow victims, does this require a delete and reload, or will it sort itself out eventually?

I think it may well be "pay for". Word's gone around the publishing community and even the mainstream press that Houghton Mifflin Harcourt are putting a freeze on new acquisitions pro tem until the economic situation improves, I believe. Reprints, if carefully budgeted for, are far less risky than acquiring a new and untried author/title.

As I understand it, a) it may eventually sort itself out, and b) it doesn't affect everyone (i.e. most people viewing your entry will see the correct userpic, not the switched one), assuming this is similar to the problems we were having when I was still in support.

According to http://www.livejournal.com/support/, if you clear your browser's cache and still see the wrong image, you can open a support request. (If you do that, in addition to linking to the problem picture, it would probably help if you describe what it should be and what you see instead.)

That sounds like a great deal more effort than deleting and reloading. I was thinking about a new laughter icon anyway.

well, there's no guarantee that the same thing won't happen with the new image. *wry grin* (but it might not. who knows.)

I had this same problem -- sudden random icon I'd never seen before showing up in place of one of mine -- and I deleted and reloaded and that fixed everything. It's been about two weeks and I've had no problems since.

I haven't heard anyone reporting a delete-and-reload not fixing it, because AFAIK it loads it to a new location. Support requests get passed on to someone dev-y who flushes the cache, but you may have to wait for a bit for that to happen.

Teenygozer, my default icon, was replaced on-and-off by a Winky Girl icon I'd never seen before. I waited for her to spontaneously disappear forever, but she would always return, whether on my work or home computer. I only got rid of her when I checked my icons page and realized she had taken up residence there as well, as my default icon. I deleted her entirely and re-uploaded Teenygozer and made him my default icon again. Wish I'd done it sooner! Winky Girl was kind of annoying!

I'm so glad to hear that your Dad is doing well.

Booksellers are being hit pretty hard by the economic crisis, just like everyone else. Reprints are cheaper, not only because they don't have to pay a new author, but also the support staff.

That's good news about your dad.

I had a random icon that wasn't mine a while back - I deleted it and reuploaded the original and it's been fine since (it was 3 - 4 weeks ago).

Will check out the P&P Facebook.

I had the swapped icon issue. If you open a support request then they'll know to clear whichever cache at their end needs clearing.
