Hmmm. Not a long comment this time, because we're on the cusp of the resolution, and well, what can you say outside "I wish it were tomorrow"?
The one-liners are once again excellent, although much scarier this time: "You are in my every nightmare." "A man who can't die has nothing to fear." "The first responsibility is to protect the best interests of this country, right?" "This goes for you people listening in on the wire." "We've been expecting you."
"Where'd it get 'em from?" I appreciate that it was the American who cut to the chase. But how come UNIT guy isn't sitting next to the American General anymore? I don't even see him in the room.
I wonder how many people will be using 325000 as a lottery number.
And then the big issue: Ianto. I was wrong, they did kill him off. However, I'm not going to write him off as really most sincerely dead and gone until and unless he doesn't resurrect at some point tomorrow due to some handwave or another. Yes, it's noble and all... but after the end of last season it's pretty derivative too, and Torchwood has already been whittled down past the point of survivability.

Date: 2009-07-10 12:32 am (UTC)I haven't been spoiled for any of these episodes, apart from the existence of Jack's daughter, so I wasn't expecting the climax. I won't be surprised whichever way they choose to go with it, though: they killed Owen and Tosh last year, so killing Ianto now isn't exactly a step too far. Having said that... RTD seems to able to handwave all sorts of mysterious resurrections, and even if I don't care for Ianto personally he's popular among TW fans and RTD knows that. It would also be quite a risk, I'd think, to return to a normal season with Jack the only surviving member, much as Jack's the key character - assuming there is actually going to be another series. We'll see.

Date: 2009-07-10 06:18 am (UTC)My latest weird thought about it was bringing Ianto back as a virtual simulation living on the mainframe. Mostly because wouldn't that yank Jack's chain, when you think about the practical implications...

Date: 2009-07-10 01:54 am (UTC)Until the next crisis occurs, whereupon Gwen will open the front door and find Tosh & Owen standing there in dark suits and ties:
"We're puttin' the band back together."
"We're on a mission from God."

Date: 2009-07-10 02:11 am (UTC)That would be kinda cool. And if the latter part ever happened, I think some people would fall to their knees and bless you and your progeny.

Date: 2009-07-10 02:06 pm (UTC)I have a sneaking suspicion I know where Day Five is going, and if I'm right it'll reinforce Torchwood as the "Utter Bastards" program. Because the aliens do have a very obvious weakness in their grand plan, and I'd be surprised if it wasn't exploited.
The bad part is that I can't do certain illegal activities to find out whether I'm right until Sunday/Monday. Please feel free to spoil my fanny off today. :)

Date: 2009-07-10 07:52 pm (UTC)Note, am writing this before seeing the final episode: all the sniffing and the column of light is reminding me a great deal of Quatermass, and we know how that ended.

Date: 2009-07-10 06:13 am (UTC)I've been having the recurring thought that the deus ex machina this time is going to be an AU crashing in and bringing its versions of Tosh and Owen back with it...

Date: 2009-07-10 06:27 am (UTC)Oh look, applying logic again, stop it Pers!
If Torchwood comes back for season 4, I'm gonna be amazed, to be honest!

Date: 2009-07-10 10:08 am (UTC)I'm wondering about that, and realizing that maybe I can live without Ianto if this is the end, fade to sunset. OTOH, I hear the ratings are excellent.
On the third hand, I just can't get past RTD thinking the show will continue without over half the cast. Unless he wants to "reboot" by having new "bring new people into Torchwood" episodes.
I don't know.

Date: 2009-07-10 10:13 am (UTC)He sounded keen to do a fourth season before S3 aired - but that might just have been because he didn't want to give away the ending...
