1) I laughed like a loon when Rory said "America salutes you" ... and then (by American standards) did it wrong. Okay, *Blam!*Blam!* "Welcome to America" too.

2) Is the Silence an event or a people? If they're forgotten instantly, how did all those races last year keep wittering on about "The Silence is coming" - they wouldn't know either! And just how scary is a villain who goes from "we have lived in the dark forever" to "their ass is grass and humanity's fire" in two hours?

I think Matt's "angst" acting is getting better, but it's not changing my unhappiness.

The accents were on the whole really good, but man, it yanks me out of the story when Nixon says, "a healthy American will do just nicely" and "dare I ask," or Carson says "How long have Scotland Yard had this," or the little girl says "it's quite all right."

TBH, I missed every single one of those. I see most of them now written down... except for "quite all right." I've heard that a lot, it seems.

(On the other hand, we seem to be backwashing a bit. One of the Staggering Stories commentators got endless grief from the others for pronouncing "schedule" the American way.)

I can't see a little girl saying "Quite all right" unless she were trying to be precious/English.

I figured that someone was giving the girl (as opposed to the little actress) lines she had to say.

To a homeless guy? I dunno. I'm more inclined to believe she was just not a very good actress.

I thought the child was (a) a Time Lord -- since she regenerated. (B) Possibly Amy's child. Either way, it would make perfect sense for her to be speaking in a British accent.

S6 E2

Hi Nea --

I actually LIKED it, esp. Part 2 (part one left me asking TONS of questions. I still have some but overall I thought it was cool. The Dr seemed a bit cruel at the end tho' -- confused and cruel).
One thing I found interesting in the special aired AFTERWORDs, which was "the Silents are falling" Note the spelling, not "the silence" but Silents. My guess would mean that the Silent are a race and they've done this before, such as to the Vampire-Fish people in "Vampires of Venice". I do hope everything pays off and makes sense. (So much of S5 did not make sense, even the ending).
On a completely different note: love your icon but it makes me think "ouch", it hurts. -Olivia

We were told then that the whole season was essentially the beginning of a two-parter; I'm going to be pissed off if all the storylines don't wrap up this year.

My guess would mean that the Silent are a race and they've done this before,

They probably have, but how did the other races know to run from an enemy? How did they even *remember* them?

Perhaps the other races figured it out AFTER their planets were destroyed?
It seems now that "The Silence" isn't the result of the explosion of the TARDIS/destruction of the universe after the Doctor is placed in the Pandorica -- but even more is going on.

BTW -- Re-watched "The Pandorica Opens"/"The Big Bang" today and we see The Doctor put into the Pandorica -- but Amy comes out, and we don't actually see WHEN the Doctor is let out.

We also have two Doctors running around the museum in "The Big Bang", just as we did in the Weeping Angels episodes from S5 -- indicating this Doctor is crossing his own time-stream and he's doing it alot.

I'm guessing about 10 minutes after he went in, considering that the FutureDoctor more or less told Rory how to open it and to shove Amy in while the corpse was still warm (although not in those terms).

I laughed like a loon when Rory said "America salutes you" ... and then (by American standards) did it wrong.

Hee! Me, too. (And I am almost 85% certain they did it on purpose.)

Okay, *Blam!*Blam!* "Welcome to America" too.

I laughed and cheered! Moffat can make all the jokes about trigger happy Americans he wants, when he also shows those guns come in dang handy when fighting creepy, big-headed, interstellar tyranny.

how did all those races last year keep wittering on about "The Silence is coming" - they wouldn't know either!

This didn't occur to me when I was watching (I was struck by the revelation, then carried along by the action), but that's an excellent point. I had thought "silence" referred to the shrinking of the universe. IIRC, Prisoner Zero said "The universe is cracked. The Pandorica will open. Silence will fall." Listing those events in that way implied to me that "silence" referred to the result of the TARDIS explosion. I hope that the events we saw tonight relate somehow to the crack in the universe storyline, which I believe is not totally resolved (due to the Doctor not knowing who was pulling the TARDIS and causing the explosion).

(And I am almost 85% certain they did it on purpose.)

I'm sure they did it on purpose, the question is, was it Moffat's decision or Darvill's? Because Rory has by now been hanging out with American military; if Darvill wanted to make a point that Rory's been paying attention he'd do it right. On the other hand, Rory is extremely nervous, and thus Darvill could go for the joke that his character has reverted to "home" as it were.

Moffat can make all the jokes about trigger happy Americans he wants, when he also shows those guns come in dang handy when fighting creepy, big-headed, interstellar tyranny

Amen! The scene of all the Secret Service people pivoting and pulling their sidearms gave me a bit of a thrill and chill.

I hope that the events we saw tonight relate somehow to the crack in the universe storyline, which I believe is not totally resolved

We were more or less told last year that the story arc was part 1 of 2, to be completed this year. I'm going to be really pissed if it isn't wrapped up.

I'm pretty certain what Rory gave was, in fact, a Cub Scout salute, presumably on the basis that this was the only salute he'd ever been taught.

Now there's a thought; hadn't come at it from that direction.

But at the same time, I've never been taught *any* salute and I can more or less do both British-style and American-style ones just from watching movies and patriotic celebrations. But with Rory so nervous, it makes sense that he would try to emulate proper military protocol... *for him.*

*digs up very, VERY dim memories of my brother in the Scouts* Is there a difference in how the thumb is held from scouts vs military?

One thing that struck me was:
"Silence will fall."

Then:
Doctor - "It's like kicking the Romans out of Rome."
Rory - "Rome fell."

Rory - "Rome fell."

And then the Doctor asks him if he remembers being a Roman soldier...and Rory says "not all the time".

If he remembers the Roman soldier's life, then he's not really Rory, because the universe re-ordered itself; big-bang and all that. I think the 'sometimes' is related to the vacillating pregnant/not pregnant of Amy. And is Amy not/pregnant with the Doctor's Time Baby? Things that make you go Hmmmmmm.

But Amy could only bring the Doctor back because her memories of the Doctor were built in; in the scene where he comes back, you can hear Rory saying "I was plastic" so his memories have survived as well.

So... reboot, but with echoes.

Pregnancy's been a thing with Amy huh? I mean this, and then the Dream-Master (whatever) with the alternate worlds.

And alternate things has been a thing too. (Awkward sentence is awkward.) Alternate possible boyfriends in her first ep (Rory or handsome fella), forgotten!Rory/robot!Rory, young!Amelia/adult!Amy.

It's a storyline that nobody's ever used before. But then, the censors never allowed an explicitly sexually active female companion before either!

If the Silence is an event than it falling means its occurring, which is frightening. But if it's a people than them falling means they're losing, which is encouraging. Possibly.
